Smart Fams

Privacy policy

Version 1 · 8 September 2026

This covers the Smart Fams app (today at app.smartfams.com, and the coming iPhone app) and this website, smartfams.com. It's deliberately written in plain language: if anything is unclear, ask us and we'll fix it.

The short version

1. Who we are

Smart Fams is a product of We Sync Global, LLC, a small independent company. For anything about privacy — a copy of your data, a correction, a deletion or a question — write to support@smartfams.com. A person answers, normally within one or two working days and always within 30 days.

2. What data exists

Everything we store is written by the family itself inside the app:

DataWhat it's for
Each member's profile: name or nickname, emoji, colour, whether they're an adult and, optionally, their year of birthKnowing who is who, and suggesting the agreements that suit that age
A cryptographic fingerprint (SHA-256 hash) of the PINChecking the PIN without storing the number anywhere
Goals, activities planned, completed or cancelled, and the evidence notes you writeThe week's plan and the family's history
Agreements and permissions between adults and children, requests, doubts and meetingsHow permissions are shared out and what the family decided
Kudos, postcards and the gardenThe celebrating part
Invitations: the code and who invited whomLetting a new member in

What we never ask for or store: email address, phone number, postal address, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or the device's location. The app has no accounts: there is no password to lose and no email address to leak.

3. Where it lives

On your devices

The app keeps in the browser's local storage a copy of the family's log (so it works offline), which member uses that device, the light or dark theme, whether sound is off, a cached weather reading, the family's sync key, and some technical bookkeeping so nothing is sent twice. We use no cookies, neither in the app nor on this site.

On the server

The family's log lives in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase in the United States (region us-west-1). The app and this site are served through Cloudflare, which like any web server handles the request and keeps temporary technical logs (IP address, time, browser type) to serve the pages and protect them from attacks.

4. Children

The app is meant to be used as a family, and there are children in it. Children's profiles are created and managed by an adult in the family, who can correct them or ask for their deletion at any time. A child's data is the minimum the game needs — a name or nickname, optionally a year of birth, their goals and their activities — and it is never used for advertising, never profiled, and never shared with third parties for commercial purposes. We ask no child for contact details.

5. Who it's shared with

Nobody who isn't needed to make the app work. Today that means:

WhoWhat they get, and why
SupabaseStores the family's log (it is the database)
CloudflareServes the app and this site; sees the request and the IP address
Open-MeteoThe weather shown in the app. It's requested with the town's fixed coordinates, never with your device's location; it does see the requesting IP
Google FontsThe typefaces inside the app; it sees the IP when they're downloaded

This website (smartfams.com) calls no third party at all: the typefaces are hosted here and there isn't a single script. Once the app is published on the App Store, Apple will handle the download and any payment under its own policies.

We might also have to hand over data if a valid legal order required it. We will never sell it.

6. How long we keep it

The family's log is append-only by design: nothing is edited or deleted behind the scenes, so that the history the family sees is honest (a cancelled activity is recorded as cancelled, it doesn't vanish). We keep it for as long as the family uses the app.

If you ask us to delete it, we delete that family's entire log from the server within 30 days at the latest, and confirm when it's done. To clear one device, clear the site's data in the browser or uninstall the app.

7. Your rights

If you live in the European Union or in California you also have the rights the GDPR or the CCPA give you. They're exercised the same way: an email to support@smartfams.com. And for the record: we do not sell or share personal data in the sense those laws mean.

8. Security, and its limits

9. Changes

If this changes we'll change the date at the top, and if the change matters we'll say so inside the app. Older versions are available by email.
